This case involved
a car and a tractor-trailer traveling on a snow covered
highway. The tractor-trailer was making a u-turn at a median
crossover. There was a sign against making a u-turn at that
location. The investigating officer cited the car for "Failure
to keep proper lookout" and the tractor-trailer for
"Failure to observe road signs". The driver of
the car had adequate time to receive and avoid the collision,
though roadway conditions did reduce the stopping ability
of the car. Had the road not been icy the car may have been
able to slow enough to avoid the impact. When driving in
icy, or other poor roadway conditions, be sure to increase
the distance between your vehicle and others to give yourself
more time to react and brake in an emergency.
