3. PERCEPTION
The process of
interpreting complex sensory information can be adversely
affected by alcohol. Such perceptual complexity occurs
if the total amount of sensory information increases,
if it is presented at a rapid rate, or if it arrives from
several sources simultaneously. For example, an alcohol-impaired
driver who performs adequately on a country road where
there is little traffic might be unable to negotiate a
congested intersection in the city safely.
