The National Organ Transplant Act (NOTA) Established the Organ Procurement and Transplant Network (OPTN) to determine who is alloted a transplant and the Act also makes it illegal to buy or sell human organs or tissues intended for transplant.

If you want to be an organ donor, it is best to keep your donor card with you. If there is a driver's license or personal identification indicating the same, that can also be used to inform the hospital or trauma center of your wish.
