Looking
To Both Sides
When
your vehicle is moving, always check traffic beside you
as well, and be sure to use your signals.
Make a quick look over your left shoulder to verify
the lane you want is clear. Check traffic to the sides quickly.
Do not take your eyes off the road ahead for more than a
second.
Every time you come to a place where traffic or pedestrians
cross, you must look to both sides and make sure
the road is clear before proceeding. Look to both sides
at intersections, crosswalks, and railroad crossings.
Follow these procedures when you approach an intersection:
-
Look to the left first, because traffic coming from
the left is closest to you.
- Look
to the right.
- Look
one more time to the left before you pull out, just
in case there is someone approaching that wasn’t there
before.
- Do
not rely on traffic signals! Many reckless drivers run
red lights, or don’t stop at stop signs.
Drive defensively by looking around for other
drivers who may be careless.
