While
touch and smell don't help you navigate your vehicle, they
may reveal problems with your car and its relationship to
the road.
Touch,
or more commonly called "the feel of the road",
is important for warning a driver of road conditions or
mechanical problems. If you steering is loose feeling or
vibrates at speed, it may indicate a problem with the vehicles
suspension or steering. Does the brake pedal seem too hard
or soft? Does the steering suddenly get loose? You may be
hydroplaning or skidding. Do you feel rumble strips shaking
the steering wheel? You could be headed off the road or
toward oncomming traffic. Again, touch is an important sense
to warn you of problems with your vehicle or roadway.
