Keep A Space Cushion To The Side

Keeping a good space cushion to the side avoids collisions with traffic traveling beside or towards you in adjacent lanes. Keep as much space as you can between yourself and oncoming traffic. If you are traveling on a multilane roadway such as a freeway, stay out of the center lane to give you more room to avoid a collision with a passing car or one that drifts over the centerline.
