Interacting
with Motorcyclists (Continued)
The most common collision
involving cars colliding with motorcycles occurs when the
motorist turns left in front of a motorcycle at an intersection
. There is a danger point wherever motorcycles are intersecting
with traffic traveling in and out of driveways, side streets
or merging into traffic
This collision involved
a driver turning left at an intersection where a vehicle
had stopped in the opposite lane. Neither the driver of
the car or motorcycle reacted to the dangerous situation
at the intersection. Approximately 40% of all motorcycle
collisions occur at intersections.
If there is slowing
or stopped traffic in you direction of travel slow down
and proceed with caution. The vehicle may be blocking the
view of a hazard. Also, don't assume traffic won't drive
around traffic that has stopped to let you by.
